This castle is dated back to the 12th. c. and was occupied by the Anglo-Norman de Barry family. The castle had holes in the floor to pour boiling water on attackers and windows for guards to point guns out of (very small windows). The stone walls were at least three feet thick throughout the house. It was interesting to see all the protective measures that were once in operation here- and no alarm system! :) This was near Cork, about a 15 min. drive on the bus.
